Social Justice in Institutions and Organisations Your PhD is awarded on completion of your supervised research, a viva examination, and final thesis. It may lead to career progression or change, a move into academia, or the satisfaction of intellectual curiosity.

The PhD in Education and Social Justice is a new addition to the Department’s established and successful suite of doctoral programmes, one of which has been running since 1995. Applications are now invited to join the first cohort of students who will commence the programme in autumn 2013.

The study is a critical investigation of social justice concerns in higher education policy in emerging democracies such as South Africa. The study focuses on three initiatives at the University of Pretoria as exemplary projects that address social justice concerns in.

The Social Justice and Education MA will help students to identify, examine and understand key sociological and philosophical perspectives on social justice, including issues of race, class, gender and sexuality, and education.

Overview. The doctoral concentration in Inclusive Leadership for Social Justice is designed to develop more inclusive scholar-leaders who are knowledgeable about and sensitive to the complex ways that power and injustice manifest in organizations and communities in order to co-create a more just society.

An interdisciplinary research group interested in how knowledge and social justice interact This research group defines education broadly to include informal and incidental learning, capacity building and agency through community organising and knowledge creation and translation as well as the more traditionally considered avenues of schooling.

The social justice certificate program is for graduate students in other UMass Amherst programs who want to develop foundational knowledge and curricular and facilitative skills in social justice education. Students complete five courses (15 credits) and a teaching practicum.

All MPhil and PhD students and academic staff are invited to research seminars run by the Department’s three Research Centres: the Centre for Language, Culture and Learning (CLCL), the Centre for the Arts and Learning and the Centre for Identities and Social Justice. In addition to academics from inside and outside the University, research students also have an opportunity to contribute to.

Apply in-depth knowledge of the theories, principles, methodologies and approaches concerning social justice and education to support related education initiatives. Contribute to consideration of education practice and policy by evaluating the interplay between key concepts in a range of contexts and from different perspectives.

The PhD degree program is designed to provide opportunities for advanced study, original research, and theoretical analysis. The PhD program can be taken on a full-time or flexible-time basis. The Department of Social Justice Education (SJE) welcomes applicants with diverse but relevant backgrounds.
